Rarity and Value: These were printed as early as 1875 and as late as 1901. Ten dollars is definitely a tougher denomination for this series. The value of any early note like this is just based on the condition and bank of issue. Generic examples typically sell for around $1,000. There is certainly room for that price to be considerably higher; it just depends on the above mentioned factors. Please contact us for details. Don’t forget to check the serial number. Number 1 notes always sell for nice premiums.
Current Market Analysis: There is a very fervent collector base of notes from the St. Louis metro area. Probably 98% of St. Louis notes are very common, but the rare ones can sell for very strong money. Sadly, the same is not really true for Kansas City notes. They are very common and rarely sell for surprising prices. We normally think of large size notes as being extremely desirable. However, small notes from Missouri are at least as popular. We have also noticed that relatively scarce notes in heavily circulated condition just aren’t in demand; but notes with similar statistics in XF condition or better often sell for many multiples of what the circulated note is worth. The collectors out there are very picky when it comes to condition.
