Rarity and Value: These are pretty scarce notes. Not many banks chose to issue such a high denomination in the late 19th century. The most generic examples in circulated condition are still worth around $3,000 each. There is a lot of room for that price to get higher. The condition and bank of issue are both extremely important. Contact us for details. Don’t forget to check the serial number. Number 1 notes always sell for nice premiums.
Current Market Analysis: National bank notes from The District of Columbia can either be issued from Georgetown or Washington. Only two banks were in Georgetown. A total of 27 different banks issued nationals in DC. At least three of the banks have yet to have any notes discovered that they issued. Notes from both cities are plentiful; however, that does not mean that they are always cheap. The bank of issue and the type of national bank note issued are both extremely important. You want to look for traditional rarities like high denominations and rare types. Don’t discount the signor either. You never know what important political figure might have signed nationals from that part of the country.
