Rarity and Value: Despite saying series of 1882, these were actually printed between 1908 and 1921. So they aren’t quite as old as you might think. However, that doesn’t mean that they can’t be valuable. Your typical range is probably $300 to $1,200. Notes that are rare or especially high grade could certainly be worth more money. Please contact us for details. Don’t forget to check the serial number. Number 1 notes always sell for nice premiums.
Current Market Analysis: The market for better North Carolina national bank notes has traditionally been strong. It was stronger five years ago compared to today. However, it is a better state than most in terms of demand and number of collectors. North Carolina already had a robust economy during the first charter period (prior to 1882) so you can find early notes from major cities like Charlotte, Winston Salem, Raleigh, etc. The most prized notes from the state are going to be from the tiny communities that issued during the early 20th century. A couple of towns that come to mind are Hamlet and Murphy. Notes with color like 1882 brown backs and 1902 red seals are not necessarily rare, but they are much more popular than blue seals or small size notes.
