Basic Design:

Rarity and Value:  These are not rare as a type. Some are only worth a few hundred dollars. You really just need to pay attention to the bank of issue and condition. Some examples can be worth thousands of dollars. It is also interesting to note that James Garfield was the first person to be featured prominently on a national bank note. Each state also has a unique seal on the back left hand side of each note. Some collectors try to collect a seal from each state. Don’t forget to check the serial number. Number 1 notes always sell for nice premiums.

Current Market Analysis:  Only 21 different towns in Delaware issued national bank notes. Some of them can be very scarce. Red seals from Delaware are very scarce. The town of issue is also very important. Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware, so notes from there tend to be the most common. With that said, the market for Delaware nationals can be unpredictable. Since so few notes were issued, long periods of time can go between offerings. Something that seems common on paper can occasionally sell for surprisingly high amounts of money. The opposite can also occasionally apply. The market is thin on the upper end, so things that should be rare don’t always command prices they should.
