Rarity and Value: Very few national banks had the right criteria to issue a high denomination like this. That makes these notes scarce. There are two varieties. One is really scarce. If the back says “One Hundred Dollars” at the center in large print then you have a great find. Most examples will say “1882 – 1908”. Even the most generic examples should be worth a couple thousand dollars. Please contact us for exact values. Don’t forget to check the serial number. Number 1 notes always sell for nice premiums.
Current Market Analysis: We are likely the most qualified people to comment on the state of the market for South Carolina national bank notes. Our offices are in South Carolina. We have helped assemble some important collections and we personally collect SC nationals. First charter notes from South Carolina are very rare. Less than twenty are known to exist. The same thing goes for 1902 red seals; only around 30 are known to exist. Some blue seals can definitely be scarce, but they have to be from rare towns like Clio, Woodruff, Wagener, St. Matthews, and several other towns. Most notes from South Carolina are in VF condition or much lower. High quality notes that are also rare are few and far between.
